Built for Australian Sole Traders

Turn Your Business Totals Into BAS-Ready Figures Without the Stress or Guesswork

BASCalc is more than a spreadsheet. It is a guided BAS preparation system designed to help Australian sole traders and simple small businesses turn messy numbers into clear, BAS-ready figures you can confidently enter into the ATO portal.

The problem most sole traders face

BAS is not usually difficult because your business is too complex. It becomes stressful because your receipts are scattered, the ATO labels feel confusing, and you are left second-guessing what goes where. That leads to procrastination, panic, and paying hundreds to get a relatively simple BAS prepared.

What BASCalc helps you do

BASCalc helps you organise your totals, apply the right GST logic, and produce clean summary figures aligned with common BAS labels such as G1, 1A and 1B. Instead of wrestling with formulas or trying to interpret accounting jargon, you follow a structured workflow designed to make the numbers easier to understand and faster to complete.

The BAS Ready Flow Method

BASCalc uses a simple guided flow to help you move from uncertainty to clarity. You enter your core business totals, the system structures the numbers in the background, and you receive a BAS-ready summary that makes the next step far easier. This is what makes BASCalc different from a generic calculator or blank spreadsheet template. It is built as a focused workflow for real-world BAS preparation.

Before BASCalc

Confused totals. Unclear GST amounts. ATO codes that feel like another language. Too much time spent checking, rechecking, and wondering if you are about to enter the wrong figures.

After BASCalc

Clear totals. Structured outputs. Greater confidence. A faster path to BAS-ready figures so you can stop overthinking it and get the job done.

Why this matters

BASCalc is ideal for sole traders and straightforward Australian businesses that do not need expensive software or ongoing bookkeeping help just to prepare quarterly BAS figures. If your business is relatively simple and you want a practical, plain-English way to get organised, BASCalc gives you a smarter alternative to stress, delay, and unnecessary accounting costs.

It is not trying to be bloated accounting software. It is a focused BAS preparation tool built to help you get your numbers ready with more clarity, more confidence, and far less friction.

BASCalc is intentionally focused. It is not trying to be bloated accounting software or a one-size-fits-all solution for every business type. It is designed to do one job extremely well for the right type of user: help straightforward Australian businesses turn their totals into organised BAS-ready figures with less stress and more clarity.

That means if your business is relatively simple, BASCalc can save you time, reduce confusion, and help you feel far more in control each quarter. If your situation is more complex, that is not a failure of the product. It simply means you may need a higher level of accounting support.

Stop Wasting Money on Accountants!

1. What exactly is BASCalc?

BASCalc is a ready-to-use Excel template designed for Australian sole traders. Just enter your income and expenses — and the spreadsheet automatically calculates the GST you collected, GST credits, PAYG instalments, and the amount you owe on your BAS

2. Do I need to be good at spreadsheets to use it?

Not at all. BASCalc is designed for beginners — every cell you need to fill in is clearly labelled, and all the formulas are pre-built. If you can copy and paste your transactions, you can complete your BAS

3. Who Is this for ?

BASCalc is designed for Australian sole traders and home-based or small service businesses that are registered for GST and lodge BAS quarterly. It can be used by businesses reporting GST using either the cash or accrual accounting method, provided figures are entered correctly based on the method registered with the ATO.

BASCalc is not intended for companies or partnerships, or for businesses that lodge GST annually. If you are unsure which reporting method applies to you, confirm this with the ATO or your accountant.

4. Is this ATO compliant?

Yes. BASCalc follows the exact structure of the ATO BAS form and uses the correct GST and PAYG calculation rules. You still lodge your BAS through the ATO as normal — BASCalc simply gives you the totals instantly.

5. How long does it take to complete my BAS?

For most average sole traders, completing a quarterly BAS typically takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour to enter income and expense data into BASCalc, depending on the number of transactions. Once your figures are calculated, lodging and paying your BAS through the ATO (myGov) portal usually takes around 10–15 minutes. Actual time may vary based on the complexity of your records and how prepared your information is.

6. Do I need to pay a monthly subscription?

No. BASCalc is a one-time purchase — no subscriptions, no hidden fees, no ongoing costs.
Your download link and unique access code are delivered instantly after payment.

7. What software do I need?

You only need Microsoft Excel (any version from the last 10 years).
It also works perfectly on Excel for Mac.

8. Can I reuse the spreadsheet each quarter?

Yes! Once purchased, you can use BASCalc every quarter and every year — indefinitely.
Simply save a new copy of the spreadsheet for each financial year, then use the built-in quarterly sheets (Q1–Q4) for each BAS period,

9.  What if I need help using the template?

BASCalc includes a clear, step-by-step help section, along with two detailed “How To” guides: one for installation and setup, and another explaining how to complete and submit your BAS via the ATO portal. All guidance is provided within the included documentation. BASCalc does not provide technical support, accounting advice, BAS interpretation, or personalised tax or compliance assistance.

10. Is there a refund policy?

Because BASCalc is a digital download, all sales are final once the file and access code have been delivered.
If you experience a technical issue and have not accessed the file, please contact us within 14 days.

11. Is this my end-of-year tax return or business accounts?

No. BASCalc is for your quarterly BAS statements — the reports that GST-registered businesses must lodge every 3 months through your MyGov Business Portal. This is where you report and pay your GST, and (if applicable) your PAYG instalments. Your end-of-year tax return and business accounts are a completely separate process handled at tax time.

12. What is GST?
  1. GST (Goods and Services Tax) is the 10% tax added to most goods and services you sell in Australia. If you’re registered for GST, you must:
  2. Collect GST from your customers.
  3. Put that money aside (it’s not yours).
  4. Report it on your BAS every 3 months.
  5. Pay the GST you collected to the ATO (minus any GST credits from your business expenses).
  6. Example:   Charge a customer $110 → $100 is yours, $10 is GST you owe the ATO.
13. What is PAYG?

PAYG (Pay As You Go instalments) is a system where the ATO gets your income tax in advance during the year — instead of waiting until tax time. If the ATO has put you on PAYG instalments, it means:
You pay a set amount of income tax each quarter.
This amount is included in your BAS (usually at label T7 or T1).
It reduces your tax bill at year-end.

Important:
PAYG is NOT GST.
It’s your personal/business income tax paid in instalments, not a fee. Example:
Your BAS might say to pay $1500 PAYG this quarter — that goes towards your income tax for the year.

14. What if I don’t know my PAYG amount?

Don’t stress — you don’t have to calculate PAYG yourself. Your PAYG instalment is automatically decided by the ATO based on last year’s tax return.

When you log into MyGov → ATO → Lodgements → Activity Statements, your PAYG amount will already be pre-filled by the ATO. Two possibilities:

✅ 1. You normally owe tax → PAYG will appear automatically Just copy and paste the amount from MyGov into your BASCalc spreadsheet. That’s it.

✅ 2. You normally get a tax refund → you won’t have any PAYG If the ATO usually gives you a refund at tax time, your PAYG instalment will be $0, and nothing needs to be entered. No calculations.
No confusion.

BASCalc works for both situations instantly.

15. Excel won’t open BASCalc — what do I do?

BASCalc must be opened from your computer, not from an email or browser preview.
Save the file to your Downloads or Documents folder, then open it directly in Excel.
If prompted, click Enable Editing and Enable Content / Macros.

16. Does BAS support CASH and Accrual  reporting?

BASCalc supports both cash and accrual accounting when figures are entered correctly.

17. What is the difference between cash and accrual accounting for BAS?

The difference between cash and accrual accounting is when GST is reported.

Under the cash accounting method, GST is reported when money is actually received or paid. You generally enter income and expenses based on your bank activity during the BAS period.

Under the accrual accounting method, GST is reported when invoices are issued or received, regardless of whether they have been paid. This means unpaid invoices and bills are included in the BAS period based on the invoice date.

BASCalc can be used for both methods, provided figures are entered correctly. The accounting method you must use is determined by how your business is registered with the ATO.

If you are unsure which method applies to you, confirm this with the ATO or your accountant before completing your BAS..
